Hematite is Iron ore. Ranging from grey to black close granular stone has a metalic like finish. It will leave a red streak if it is scratched accross a surface.
This red streak is probably why the Greeks named it after blood.
Used in history by many cultures for warfare related used. It has been known as the sodiers stone. Native american indians believed that if they wore war paint made from ground hematite, then they would be invinsable.
Hematite has been linked with beliefs that it can cure kidney and blood related diseases. This may be because in it's raw from it is found in clumps that resemble animal kidneys.
Hematite is found in Uk, Germany, North and south America and Canada.
The furthest it has been found is MARS!!!
