Rock crystal is a clear form of quartz. It is famous for being an incredibly hard wearing stone.
The word crystal comes from the Greek “kyros” and means “icy cold” and indeed the crystals do look like little beads of ice.
The greeks actually believed that they were formed from frozen water that had frozen so hard that they were frozen forever.
Quartz is found all over the world.
