It is probably the most popular and well know semi precious stone.
It is the birthstone for February.
Amethyst is a type of Quartz mineral and can be found in Canada, North & South America, Russia, Europe, Asia and Africa.
Anglo Saxon graves in the UK have been found to contain amethyst beads.
The word Amethyst comes from Greek and meant “not to intoxicate“. It was widely believed that taking wine from a cup made of Amethyst would protect you from the intoxicating effects!
